This game delivers an action-packed ride through the age of metal that takes nothing too seriously and will keep you laughing and gripping your controller too tightly at the same time. While the Action/RTS(Real Time Strategy) style of the game might be intimidating to some, the campaign itself works as an excellent tutorial into how the mechanics of this battle system works. This is one of the first games to coordinate good action-game style fighting with the strategy of an RTS.
The introduction to this game, offering to "blow your soul", is enough to make anyone curious. The menu system is both innovative and beautiful. Using a record album as the menu to a game about heavy metal is absolutely brilliant, and they pulled it off spectacularly. The Opening segment of the game gets you quickly acquainted with the action portion of the game as well as the driving mechanics. It also continues to build up your anticipation by being outrageously funny and quite epic.
The Driving portion of the game serves as a good means to get about the game world, taking you from mission to mission. The missions themselves are a bit mixed. The main story line is excellent, involving, and alot of fun. The side missions however, can become a little tedious even though the there are good incentives for completing them. Luckily, they are not at all necessary for completing and/or enjoying the game.
One thing that is not tedious for the most part, is the dialog. Jack Black continues to bring you laugh after laugh as you go through a very well written story. The dialog varies somewhat with each play through to keep it fresh each time. The only two times it did get tiring were:
1. In the motor forge Ozzie Ozbourne as "The Guardian of Metal" says his lines way too frequently. They are funny, clever, and fun to listen to the first time, but you need to use that menu often, and hearing those lines repeated in your ears the 50th time is not enjoyable. They should have made the lines less frequent in some way so they did not become bothersome.
2. When doing side missions the same dialog is played for similar side quests. More variety should have been used there.
That being said, it is my only real complaint, which is saying quite a bit.

Rent this game first.
It may not be your type of game, but you should give it a shot anyway even if you don't think you will like it. Chances are, you'll at least get some good laughs in whether you enjoy the gameplay or not.
